The University of Rajshahi, also known as Rajshahi University or RU is a public university. Which is the second-largest university in Bangladesh, in Rajshahi, a city in northwestern Bangladesh. It was established in 1953, the second university to be established in what was then East Pakistan. The university is ranked third on the Bangladesh University Ranking 2017.After its foundation on July 6, 1953. The university has passed 62 years providing higher education and research.

Description

The University of Rajshahi is one of the largest Universities in the country and. The largest with the highest seat of learning in the northern region of Bangladesh. The university is located at the green premises of Motihar which is very close to the mighty river the Padma. It’s only seven km. east from the Rajshahi City Center.

The necessity of a University in the Northern part of ers while East Pakistan was felt immediately after the creation of Pakistan. These areas were comparatively lagging behind in higher education and the University of Dhaka then only of its kind in the country. Being situated in the capital was not very easily accessible to the students of this part. Following a popular demand for a University in this region. The government prepared a feasibility report and Rajshahi was found suitable for establishing the same. Rajshahi University act 1953 (East Bengal Act XV of 1953) was passed by the East Pakistan provincial assembly on March 31, 1953.

The assent of the then Governor to establish a University at Rajshahi was first published in the Dhaka Gazette. Extraordinary dated 16th June 1951 and consequently the University started functioning. “Bara Kuthi”, an 18th-century Dutch trading house was made the administration building. Dr. Itrat Hossain Zeberi was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. Its normal academic activities began in 1954. During the early days of inception, classes were held at Rajshahi Government College. In 1961 the University moved to its present campus.

1. Islami Bank Medical College

2. Prime Medical College

The Prime Medical College Hospital was formally started its function on 17 August 2007 with a bed capacity of 310 . Which has now been extended to 750 beds. It is a tertiary care medical facility. The hospital provides all sorts of Medical & Surgical services.

3. Northern Private Medical College

Northern Private Medical College is located in the northwest part of Rangpur city. It is about 1.5 km from the main city of Rangpur and 325 km north of the Capital city Dhaka. It is by the side of the inter-country highway connecting India and Nepal. It is well communicated by rail, road with the capital city and other parts of the country.

4. North Bengal Medical College

North Bengal Medical College is the first private medical college in the northern region of Bangladesh. Which was established in the year 2000 with the permission of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The College is sited in a beautiful location on the bank of river Jamuna over an area of 3.5 acres of land. It’s in the district town of Sirajganj. 

5. Barind Medical College

The Barind Medical College Rajshahi campus is spread around 3 acres with a well-maintained academic building. It includes satisfactory facilities to deliver quality lectures to the students. It has vast lecture halls, a lab with all the latest equipment, a conference room, and a well-built examination hall.
